Hi, Iām Maddy Rae!
I am an artist from Mondovi, WI with a focus in Illustration and Graphic Design. In my personal work, I mostly use traditional mediums such as marker and watercolor, however, I have started to explore the possibilities of digital art as well.
In my work, my pieces are often inspired and driven by my experiences and interests, whether they be fictional, or from the real world. At times this inspiration is clear through the depictions of characters from shows or books, and at other times it can appear in my work in forms such as my favorite rocks appearing in the background of a piece. Making pieces that include my interests offers me a sense of peace and helps encourage me to make more art. I never want my art to feel like a job, so turning to things that make me happy, and having a sense of control in my art are integral parts of the creative process for me in any piece.
Identity has also become an important part of my work. A big goal in much of my current work is representation for people who often do not get representation in media. I want to create stories and characters that I wanted to see myself in growing up. This is also why so much of my original work has a focus on the quiet scenes in life. Sometimes the way you want to see yourself or your identity in media isnāt by the character being a hero, but by the character just going about their everyday life.
